IAN – The Irish Aftercare Network is managed and coordinated by ‘Breaking Through CLG’, a national organisation that was established in 2000.
‘Breaking Through CLG’ are a registered charity CHY No :13601 and are also registered with the Charity Regulatory Authority Reg No: 20042844
The Irish Aftercare Network through ‘Breaking Through CLG’ currently receives core funding through the Dept. of Rural and Community Development, under the Scheme to Support National Organisations 2022 – 2025
The IAN through ‘Breaking Through CLG’ are governed by a voluntary Board of Management with two paid staff members, with the main focus being to develop and coordinate the Irish Aftercare Network. This is done by supporting people working with young people leaving the care system.
Aftercare is a term used to describe the planning and support put in place to meet the needs of a young person who is leaving statutory care at the age of 18 years. Currently there are approximately 6500 young people in care in Ireland who in the next number of years will be care leavers.
Membership of the IAN is free and currently there are approximately 500 members nationally, represented by over 80 organisations.
